I'm a huge fan of the Nutrition Magician®. Over the last two years he's presented three workshops to AmeriCorps*VISTA members in SW Washington. These are Volunteers in Service to America, serving for a year in anti-poverty programs. He teaches adults while capturing our imaginations and certainly our attention.
Tom truly is a magician. On one occasion, he took our team to a grocery store to "shop on the edge." We then created a beautiful, tasty and nutritious meal and celebrated with a feast. It was an empowering experience for VISTAs living on an extremely modest budget ($840/month).
Tom has also gone into the schools and congregations of our VISTAs to work with children and youth. He mesmerizes as he finds chickens and scarves and coins in places they couldn't have been!
When it comes to food facts and common sense about nutrition, I have never seen his equal. Our team of adults, ranging in age from 23 to 60, evaluated his last workshop by listing how much they learned. As one person offered up a new insight, another commented, "Oh, I know that. Tom said that last time." He's a memorable guy.
